Setup in the late 1994 to provide a wide range of necessary services to Indians who have Neuromuscular Disorders,it is run by its members.It is a registered society and there is not even a single paid employ.They all provide their time to the I.A.M.D on voluntary basis and with in a democratic structure.

It is also defined as a "not for profit" organization.This means that all funds raised by the association are utilized in providing a range of services to the members throughout India.
